Solar Power

The sun is a vast inexhaustible source of energy. Solar energy is the energy transmitted from the sun in the form of electro- magnetic radiations. Although the earth receives about one half of one billionth of the total solar energy output, this tiny fraction amounts a huge amount of electricity generated.

Solar power is the energy generated from solar energy. Most of the energy in the form of solar power comes from the sun directly or indirectly. Fossil fuels are derived from living things which used and stored the sun’s energy millions of years ago. Hydro power is generated from falling water that is a part of water cycle run by the sun’s energy. Fossil fuels, water, wind etc. use solar power indirectly. Efforts are being made to use solar energy directly to generate solar power. Many devices have been developed to generate solar power efficiently and in a cost effective manner from the sun’s energy.

Today, solar power can be used as a source of energy in many ways. Solar power can be used in the form of heat. Solar heaters are devices that use solar energy directly for heating. Solar power can be used in the form of organic chemical energy through photosynthesis for making food by plants. Another form in which solar power can be used is photovoltaic power for generating electricity by means of devices called solar cells.

Solar power as an energy source is readily available for use. Solar energy needs to be properly harnessed to produce sufficient amount of solar power.

Types of solar power systems

The energy of the sun can be converted to usable forms known as solar power. Solar power systems convert the solar energy into solar power that can be put to several uses.

There are two types of solar power systems that are commonly used. Independent Residential solar power systems are systems more practical for use in remote areas. They need proper sunlight to operate properly. This type of solar power systems have a solar array which is a group of solar panels that collect sunlight and are generally installed on roof tops, inverter that converts the current collected from solar panels into power to be supplied to buildings, charge controller or regulator that prevents the batteries from getting over charged. These regulators also do not allow batteries to under charge. They also have deep cycle batteries to store the energy collected by solar panels and hardware, connectors and wires.

The other type includes Grid Tied Residential solar power system and it remains connected to the electricity grids that supply power in traditional ways. The advantage of these types of solar power systems is that at night when solar energy cannot be produced, power is still supplied to houses or different locations where such systems are used. The components of these systems include a solar array, inverter, hardware like wires and connectors and a metering system.

A disadvantage of solar power systems is that they are very expensive. However, their costs are often overshadowed by their benefits. These systems can meet all your energy needs easily and conveniently.

Using trees to generate solar power

Solar power is the useful form of solar energy that can be put to several uses. Solar power can be obtained from the sun either in the form of thermal power or electric power. Solar power generation is the most popular use of solar energy. Trees and nano leaves are being used to trap solar energy and convert it into electricity that can power homes and cars.

Trees are fitted with nano leaves that trap the sunlight. A combination of generators like nano photovoltaic and nano thermo voltaic are used to convert the heat of the sunlight into electricity. The solar power so generated is used for powering vehicles and also for heating homes.

This technology helps in generating solar power that is efficient and cost effective. A sufficient amount of solar power is also generated by using this technology.

The use of trees for generating solar power has many advantages. It can help to reduce the amount of electricity bills by a significant amount. Also the solar power so generated will always be readily available for use because trees are a renewable source of energy. It also does not cause any pollution and does not have a negative impact on the environment. This technology also helps to reduce global warming and results in greater productivity.

The different types of trees that can be used for generating solar power are broad leaf trees, ever green trees and even shrubs can be used for this.

These types of solar power systems can be installed on ground, roofs or anywhere convenient.

Solar power generation

The burning of fossil fuels to generate power emits carbon dioxide. The content of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has almost doubled over the past years. This has resulted in big changes in the world climate. The earth’s surface temperature is rising, ice caps and mountain glaciers are melting and this has resulted in rising levels of water in seas. This is called global warming. Global warming will cause more rains and floods and so effective measures have to be taken to reduce global warming.

One way to reduce global warming is to inject some particles into the upper atmosphere or stratosphere. These particles keep the earth cool.

However, the injected particles also have an affect on the amount and nature of sunlight that reaches the earth. Solar power can be generated only by direct sunlight and not by diffused sunlight. The amount of sunlight reaching the earth is reduced by the injected particles in the stratosphere and also reduces the amount of solar power that can be generated from this sunlight.

According to a recent research, it has been found out that the electricity generated by solar power has been reduced by almost one- fifth times by the injection of sulfur particles into the atmosphere.

The devices that operate on solar power are also affected by the injected particles. The output of solar collectors, photovoltaic cells and solar panels decreases drastically if particles are injected into the atmosphere.

Solar power today meets most of the power needs and will do so in the future. Techniques must be developed to reduce global warming without affecting the amount of solar power generated.
